The new permanent exhibition at the Kulturmühle (“culture mill”) in Parchim deals with the eventful history of the town, which is the capital of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. Eleven themed stations are spread across the two-storey exhibition area, presenting lovingly preserved objects from Parchim’s history – from the very beginnings to the present day.
The multi-level installations are a special design feature of the exhibition. Objects are mounted at various heights on vertical steel rods to provide in-depth access to the contents of the themed stations. A highlight in terms of both their aesthetic and the objects they present, these installations connect the two exhibition floors and are reminiscent of the drive belts that once ran across several storeys in this historic flour mill.

Some 600 objects spanning several centuries are displayed chronologically across the themed stations, which cover almost 1,000 m2 in total.
The stations can be explored by visitors using a variety of different media. Interactive exhibits, audio stations and films invite visitors to touch, try out and experience the numerous objects on display with all their senses.
The design of the exhibition is based on the aesthetics of factory buildings in the second half of the 19th century, which is when this industrial mill was built. The materials used reflect the rough charm of the factory halls from this period.
