The Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig
Date: 11/2016 – 04/2019
Location: Leipzig
Client: Stiftung Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland
molitor won the competition to redesign the entrance area of the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig (Leipzig Forum of Contemporary History).
The entrance to the Forum is marked by a white “ribbon” made of mineral material. It begins in front of the glass façade in the exterior space – the top edge in line with the first-floor cornicing of the neighbouring buildings. It then curves into the building and runs parallel to the foyer ceiling before curving down again just before the back wall to the floor. This prominent, bright design element contrasts effectively with the dark glass façade of the building, which reflects its surroundings.
By connecting the public space of the street with the foyer, it functions to invite and draw the attention of passersby into the interior space, which radiates a similarly bright and friendly atmosphere. Corresponding spatially to the overall design, the vertical section of the “ribbon” outside the front of the building features a finely rasterised LED display board, on which current special exhibitions or events are advertised, as well as the name and logo of the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum.
