Tatort 1522 – The Luther Bible escape room

Date: 11/2021 – 06/2022

Location: Luthergedenkstätten Wittenberg

Client: Stiftung Luthergedenkstätten in Sachsen-Anhalt

In 2022, the Luther Memorials Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt is celebrating 500 years since Martin Luther’s translation of the Bible. To mark the occasion, the Luther House in Wittenberg has opened an exhibition of a very different kind: Tatort 1522 – The Luther Bible escape room. This special exhibition and interactive game will be open to visitors until 9 July 2023.
This is also the first exhibition in an escape room format that molitor has ever worked on. Across five different rooms, visitors immerse themselves in the world of Martin Luther (1483-1546) and his companions, working together to find the German translation of the New Testament and discover the reason for its disappearance. Various tasks must be completed and puzzles solved to advance through the game – so completing the escape room requires teamwork, just like Luther’s work.

During their search, players encounter some of Luther’s well-known contemporaries: Philipp Melanchthon in his writing room, juggling with Greek and Latin terms; master printer Lotter and his assistant Hans Lufft, who is under a lot of pressure. In the kitchen of the Luther House, they meet the cook Dorothea, who not only stokes the fire…
Participants must grapple with letters, pictures, sounds and smells as they read, listen, feel, count, sort and combine in an effort to solve the riddle.
Klemens Kühn worked together with molitor to plan and design this varied escape game.
