Staging of the “plane crash site” at the Saurierpark

Date: 10/2022 – 03/2023

Location: Saurierpark Kleinwelka

Client: Beteiligungs- und Betriebsgesellschaft Bautzen mbH

Following on from a successful collaboration with the operators of the dinosaur theme park Saurierpark and the realisation of “The Lost World” ‒ an adventure area designed as an abandoned research station ‒ molitor was commissioned with creating an exciting new addition to this area in 2023: a runway with a crashed aeroplane.
The narrative and design of the plane crash site ties in with the rest of “The Lost World” area.

The staging of the aircraft, which has crashed into a station building, is effective in its storytelling: the steering wheel and fittings of the pilot’s cabin have been ripped out, the bars of the transport cage in the cargo hold appear bent and broken, and there is no trace of the occupants. Parachutes hanging in the surrounding trees glow an ominous red, hinting at a gruesome scenario.
molitor designed and planned this themed area together with then Bautzen municipal holding company BBB mbH and engineering firm Megel.
The project was realised in collaboration with the Rothenburg Aviation Museum Association.
