A Place of Information

Date: 09/2021 – 05/2022

Location: Ort der Information, Berlin

Client: Stiftung Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is located in the centre of Berlin and is Germany’s main Holocaust memorial ‒ a place of remembrance and commemoration of the up to six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. The memorial consists of an above-ground field of concrete blocks or “stelae” designed by Peter Eisenmann and an underground “Place of Information” (Ort der Information) directly beneath this site.

The information centre contains a permanent exhibition (designed by Dagmar Wilken in 2005) that documents the persecution and extermination of the Jews of Europe and the various sites of the historical crimes. It is visited by almost half a million guests every year.
For 2021/2022, molitor took over the tendering and planning process for the renovation/modernisation of the entire information centre and its exhibition. This involves exhibition construction, lighting and media technology as well as the planning of additional elements to be added to the outdoor area (media stelae, a backlit information desk, a flyer holder, etc).
