Opening of the new permanent exhibition at the German military cemetery Monte Cassino, Italy

One focus is the history of the war gravesite: until its inauguration on 4 May 1965, the fallen had been reburied there from field graves, from provisional troop cemeteries and from municipal cemeteries on the entire southern Italian mainland. In addition, the history, organisation and mission of the War Graves Commission and this site as a place of encounter are discussed.

molitor was commissioned with the conception, design and production of the exhibition. The exhibition features texts, photos, letters and documents; there is an animated film and an interactive media station. “Talking Books” present the biographies. The modern design of the exhibition is adapted to the region: Materials are travertine from neighbouring quarries and holm oak, the basic colour is olive green.
