This year, the cargo-ship-turned-floating-science-centre MS Wissenschaft is travelling through Germany once again. To mark the “Science Year 2024 – Freedom”, the ship will dock in 38 cities and offer visitors the opportunity to explore interactive exhibits that shed light on various aspects of freedom.
The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research has been organising Science Years together with “think-and-do-tank” Wissenschaft im Dialog (Science in Dialogue) since 2000. The 2024 edition is dedicated to the value of freedom in various contexts, exploring questions such as: How resilient is our democracy in the face of modern crises?
What forms of freedom are needed in schools, in universities, on the internet, in research laboratories and in the arts? How can we protect the freedom of future generations? And what is the impact of artificial intelligence on our freedom?
molitor was responsible for designing the MS Wissenschaft exhibition and building the interactive exhibits. The result is a colourful, clearly laid out and varied exhibition that presents the concept of freedom in all its facets and contexts. Around 30 interactive exhibits invite visitors to explore current research projects, share their own ideas about freedom, and engage with some of the many aspects of this important topic.
